Hadn't enjoyed a bratwurst here in some time and I feel they're juicier and tastier than before. Their alcohol selection is pretty wide and worth trying different drinks. Fast, efficient and attentive customer service.

I went to Red Lion Tavern the other week for the first time in over 15 years. I'd been once, I think, in my early 20s, before I started keeping track of my every move on Yelp. It was a hip place back then. I remember hanging out in a tiny indoor bar on an upper level of the establishment. My husband had also been once, without me, when he was a young guy living alone in Los Feliz. We made our return together, with two kids in tow, and spent our whole visit on the family-friendly patio on the outskirts of the tavern, well beyond the main patio. We never went inside, and only wandered over to the busier patio area when our toddler went looking for ceiling fans. We met up with two other families with small kids, and this was a great space for an easy Friday night hang, where all parties could get fed and watered, with beer to boot. The patio was huge and mostly empty the whole time we were there, with plenty of tables and lots of room for the children to run around. There was a play area in one corner with oversized Jenga and Connect Four. This kept several of the kids occupied for long stretches, though my boys were more interest in the decorative flags (Leo, 4) and the aforementioned fans (Wade, 23 months). Service was on the slow side, but the staff was friendly, and we weren't in any rush. It was a warm night, and I enjoyed a couple of draft beers, a Kölsch and a dunkel, both quite nice. The food was okay, though I should mention that this sort of Germanic meat and potatoes fare is like my least favorite zone of cuisine. I had the curry wurst and French fries, and it was decent, a knackwurst served with fries and curry ketchup. I also tried some of the chicken schnitzel we got for the kids when the kitchen was out of the chicken tenders. This was pretty good, though probably better if you're into heavy breaded and fried meat. It came with mashed potatoes with gravy and red cabbage. Honestly, though, the food was almost besides the point. We had a lovely night on that patio, feeding and entertaining our kids while indulging in cold beer and the company of other adults. I appreciate Red Lion more now than I did when I was young, and I hope to go back for more good times with friends and children.

Red Lion Forever! Iconic, historical, Deutsche. With new hipsteries cropping up and fading out every other year, the Red Lion Tavern is reliable institution. There are 3 (well 4) main zones. 1. The dark and cozy entry level 2. The intimate indoor upper level bar 3. .the Biergarten! 4. Parking lot patio (remnant from Covid days): benches on a slanted grade. Great German beer and food - quality, but not fancy. In particular, I love the weisswurst, the red cabbage, the chicken schnitzel and the flammkuchen (a sort of German pizza). And the pretzel. The waitresses are wonderful and proficient. No messing around! They also offer a nice selection of digestifs, like Jaegermeister, try Zwack! It's a great place for catching a Fußball game (even at 6am for a Euro game), an afternoon hang out, or evening in the lower level. We love catching the German International sensation, Heino, every time he makes his way through during Oktoberfest. You're lucky to find parking in the small lot, but street parking is most always easy to obtain.
